The lack of staff is not the only challenge faced by the Psychiatric Hospital “Bardovci” in Skopje. The difficult conditions make the work of the personnel engaged in this institution even harder.
In order to improve, at least to some extent, the working conditions for doctors, as well as the stay of the people receiving treatment at this clinic, director Isa Avdullai has started a partial reconstruction of the clinic.
The reconstruction has begun in the men’s emergency psychiatry ward, which, according to director Avdullai, was in an extremely poor and unbearable condition.

This is the emergency psychiatry ward, meaning that the emergency cases we receive are initially placed here in this ward. Since this ward had the worst conditions, I could even say the most miserable ones, from the moment I came as director and took over the position, my goal was to start with this ward first. This is the ward that we began reconstructing last week. At the moment when we started the reconstruction, there were 57 patients here, even though the capacity is 40 beds, so it was overcrowded.
During the reconstruction period, patients who need treatment, as Avdullai informed, are expected to be admitted to other wards and state hospitals. Meanwhile, the patients who were hospitalized in the ward currently being reconstructed have been transferred to other wards under the authority of the psychiatric hospital.

Our main challenge is the staff, meaning we have a shortage of healthcare personnel, as well as the budget. However, I believe that with good management, conditions can be created in the budgetary part. Now we hope that the Ministry will provide us with healthcare staff, so that the number of healthcare workers can be increased at least a little and the hospital can function as a hospital.
The Psychiatric Hospital “Bardovci” is a hospital where patients and citizens with mental disorders are hospitalized and treated, and their treatment is a challenge in itself. However, this is made even more difficult by the age of the buildings and the lack of basic conditions.
